This application is for those who have earned a passing score on the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) exam, and wish to practice in California.*** This registration is required for those who perform the fit and adjustment of spectacle lenses. Prior to filling out the application, please review California Business & Professions Code sections 2550-2559 as they pertain to an RDO. Employees must obtain Spectacle Lens Dispenser and Contact Lens Dispenser registrations. The Registered Dispensing Optician certificate authorizes the applicant and its employees to engage in the business of providing the fitting and adjusting of spectacle and contact lenses. This registration is required for small businesses, corporations, and firms engaged in the business of filling prescriptions written by physicians and surgeons.
